A
Photo from the Top of the Ferris Wheel on the Midway
This is taken from the current Oak
Hill area, looking northwest towards the soccer field.
This view shows
(top to bottom, left to right with present equivalents in
parentheses): the Fine Arts Building (Driving Club tennis courts);
the Bell Tower with its carillon (Atlanta Botanical Garden orchid
house); U.S. Government Building (Atlanta Botanical Garden
conservatory); Manufacturers and Liberal Arts Building (tennis
courts); Woman’s Building (just north of Bathhouse, south of tennis
courts); Japanese Village (northwest bank of lake); bridge; the
round Atlanta Brewing Company Beer Garden (Saturn Playground); and
Costa Rica Building (Mayors’ Memory Grove). The photo also provides
a clear view of the Grand Plaza (left middle) with all its steps,
balustrades, and sculptural decorations. In the foreground is an
electric launch, providing visitors with short trips across the
lake. What looks like a wall across the north end of the lake was
actually a stage set, used as a backdrop for fireworks displays
recreating naval battles on the lake.
