Ponce de Leon Park - Postcard Gallery
Ponce de Leon Park was located at
the site of the new
Midtown Place shopping center on Ponce de Leon Avenue across
from the Atlanta police headquarters which are in the former Sears
& Roebuck building.
At the site of Ponce de Leon
Springs, an amusement park arose and was one of the most popular
destinations in the city. The park was beside Ponce de Leon Lake,
located where the Home Depot now is.
The Springs were at the
location of the current police headquarters across the street.
Ponce de Leon Park is where the
Atlanta Crackers Baseball started playing at its inception in
1901. The recent book
The Crackers - Early Days of Atlanta Baseball has a
lot of wonderful information about the team, which played the very
last game in Ponce de Leon Park in 1965. The book site also has a
link to two multimedia presentations about the Crackers.
