Clay County Courthouse in Hayesville

Built in 1888 and on the National Register of Historic Places

Take Time to Visit Hayesville

As the county seat of Clay County, Hayesville combines small-town charm with the beauty of mountains, lakes, rivers and streams. Opportunities for camping, golf, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and water sports are plentiful.

Lake Chatuge, visible in all of the above three pictures, has over 130 miles of shoreline, much of which can never be developed.

The artists' community is diverse and growing. Whether you come for a day, a week or a lifetime, you will always find new activities and new places to explore.

A variety of current and historical maps on the site make it easy to find activities and learn about the area's past, and a comprehensive directory for Hayesville and the surrounding Hiwassee River Basin provides links to just about everything in the area.
